The place

About INTI — A Nikkei Experience

INTI plates Nikkei cuisine — the Peruvian-Japanese hybrid built on ceviche, tiradito and robata-grilled skewers — from the 20th floor of One Africa Place on Waiyaki Way. The room is dark and low-lit, wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glass that puts the Westlands skyline on every table, and built around a marble bar where the kitchen's obsession with pisco plays out. Piscos are infused in-house for weeks at a time with passion fruit, strawberry, hibiscus and purple corn. Smart casual dress is enforced, and the sundowner window from 4:30pm is the easiest way in without a booking.

Destinilo's take

INTI is the rare Nairobi restaurant that earns the word destination. Twenty floors up in One Africa Place, the dining room sits inside the building's curved glass dome, so the city itself becomes the decor: Waiyaki Way traffic by day, a carpet of lights after dark. Inside, bamboo installations and hanging foliage soften an industrial shell of exposed steel and very high ceilings. The cooking is Nikkei — the Japanese-Peruvian tradition built by Japanese immigrants in Peru — so sushi and sashimi share the pass with ceviche, tiradito, Peruvian chillies and citrus cures. Plates are small, composed and made for sharing across the table. Book late afternoon and you get the architecture in daylight, the sunset, and the night room in a single sitting.

Late afternoon into sunset (about 5:00–7:00pm). You see the glass dome and the city in daylight, watch the light go, then get the night room — all on one booking. Ask for a window table when you reserve; it is the single biggest difference between two tables here.

FAQ

INTI — A Nikkei Experience, answered

What is Nikkei cuisine?

Nikkei is the Peruvian-Japanese culinary tradition created by Japanese immigrants in Peru. It applies Japanese knife work and precision to Peruvian ingredients — citrus cures, aji chillies, corn and sweet potato — which is why ceviche, tiradito and robata grilling anchor the INTI menu.

Does INTI have a dress code?

Yes. INTI enforces smart casual. Vests, shorts, flip flops, sandals, sportswear and caps are not permitted, and the restaurant reserves right of admission.

What are INTI's opening hours?

INTI serves Monday to Sunday, 12:00pm to 10:00pm, with a daily sundowner window from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

Do I need a reservation?

Reservations are strongly recommended for dinner, especially at weekends. Groups of ten or more must call the reservation line on +254 735 065 945, as a deposit is required to hold the table.

Where exactly is INTI in Nairobi?

On the 20th floor of One Africa Place, Waiyaki Way, Westlands — roughly five minutes from the Westlands roundabout, with lift access from the building lobby.

How expensive is INTI?

It sits at the top of Nairobi's price range for restaurants. Budget for a full-price fine-dining dinner with cocktails; the sundowner window is the cheaper way to experience the room.

Is INTI a rooftop restaurant?

Not in the open-air sense. It is a high-rise panoramic restaurant enclosed by the glass dome at the top of One Africa Place, so you get the height and the views without weather or an outdoor bar setup.

Is there a business lunch?

Yes — Monday to Friday, roughly 12:00pm to 3:00pm, at about KES 3,200 per person, dine-in only. It is the most predictable way to keep the bill down. Check the current offering when you book, as the set menu changes.

Are there vegetarian and vegan options?

Yes. Quinoa and tofu salad, crispy shiitake salad, mushroom and mango ceviche, tofu dishes and the Nikkei vegetable risotto. Vegetable ramen has been served with glass noodles in place of egg noodles on request — tell the server about dietary needs rather than relying on menu symbols.

Can I get a table with a view?

Every table is inside the glass perimeter, but window-side seats are noticeably better. Request one when booking; it is not guaranteed at peak times.
